Yes, you just got home from the Ford Dealership and spent your hard earned money on a New Ford Powerstroke Diesel Engine option that cost you several thousand dollars above the Gasoline Engine Option, and your already thinking about how to protect this investment with the best products available.

Ford Motor Company needs to sell trucks. They need to make the most profit they can upfront. So, they sell you a Power Stroke Diesel. The Ford Powerstroke Division has a product planned obsolescence built into their business plan. They won't tell you about or recommend AMSOIL Synthetic Oil because your New Ford Power Stroke engine would last twice as long, and that's not in their business plan at all! Also they make a tremendous profit on the 10 cent Motorcraft OEM oil that they sell (that's what it costs to manufacture). This OEM oil provides two funtions, it keeps your Ford Powerstroke on their planned schedule for repairs and wearout and it adds a tremendously profitable add-on sale every 3000 miles. So recommending an oil that would make their Ford Powerstroke last longer and reduce their oil sales would be counter-productive to their business plan.

The 6.4L Power Stroke Diesel

We have outlined a few of the many new features for the all new 6.4L Power Stroke Diesel.  The performance and durability of the 6.4L Power Stroke Diesel Engine has been tested under the most adverse conditions that exceed those found in the real world.  The Powerstroke systems and components were consistently tested to the point of failure so they could be enhanced to handle even more punishment.  Over ten million equivalent miles of dynamometer and vehicle testing were completed on over 600 engines.  Tests were designed by placing vehicle data recorders in the vehicles of real-world customers who use their trucks under the toughest possible conditions.  

The 6.4L also meets the strict 2007 emissions standards, in which a new API classification oil CJ-4 has been designed.  The engine also is required to run on the new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel along with the new CJ-4 engine oil.  These new fuels and oils are designed to ensure long life-cycles of the exhaust after-treatment system.

The 6.4L is one of the most advanced diesel engines on the market.  It has a host of new design features that combine to deliver increased horsepower and torque combined with quieter idling and a smoother ride.  The new 6.4L also meets the much stricter 2007 EPA emissions standards with features like an active Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), enhanced Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), advanced multi-shot piezoelectric injection control, two-stage turbocharger and a superior engine structure.

    AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 is compatible with conventional and synthetic motor oils. Mixing AMSOIL motor oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.

    Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL motor oils.

    SERVICE LIFE
    AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Premium Diesel Oil is recommended for use according to the longest service interval established by the engine, vehicle or equipment manufacturer. Drain intervals may be extended when monitored by oil analysis.

    AMSOIL Ea™ and Donaldson Endurance™ full flow oil filters are designed for extended drain intervals. They stop smaller particles, have less restriction and last longer than regular filters. For best performance use AMSOIL Ea™ or Donaldson Endurance™ oil filters.

    Health & Safety
    This product is not expected to cause health concerns when used for the intended application and according to the recommendations in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). An MSDS is available upon request at 715-392-7101.

    CJ-4 Questions & Answers

     1. Why was the new API CJ-4 oil performance category developed?
    New emission standards for heavy-duty engines will be phased in between 2007 and 2010. Engines meeting these new standards will be equipped with advanced emission control technologies, including diesel particulate filters (DPF) and in most cases exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). The new API CJ-4 performance category was developed to address both the unique needs of these new engines and to protect older engines while enhancing the life of the emission control system as required for regulatory compliance.

    2. Do engine manufacturers recommend use of API CJ-4 oils to protect 2007
    emission-controlled engines?

    Yes, API CJ-4 oils, used in engines running on ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel, are critical for the durability and performance of 2007 and newer engines that utilize advanced emission control technologies. These oils have been subject to the most severe qualification testing requirements of any API engine lubricant category. API CJ-4 oils are designed to meet the expectations of the engine manufacturer and the customer in terms of both engine performance and maintenance intervals.

    3. How does the performance of API CJ-4 oils differ from previous categories
    like API CI-4 or API CI-4 PLUS?

    API CJ-4 oils have additive systems specially designed to improve the protection of both the engine power system and advanced emissions control systems like DPFs. Use of these new oils will help maintain the life of the emission control system as required for regulatory compliance. API CJ-4 oils are formulated for improved wear protection, deposit and oil consumption control, soot-related viscosity control, prevention of viscosity loss from shearing, used oil low-temperature pumpability, and protection from thermal and oxidative breakdown when compared to previous API performance categories.

    4. How does the use of API CJ-4 oils impact my oil drain intervals?
    Specific oil drain recommendations vary widely depending on engine type, duty cycle, fuel type and other factors. As always, users should seek guidance from their engine or vehicle manufacturer regarding specific service recommendations.
     

    5. Do I need to adjust my used oil analysis program for API CJ-4 oils?

    Yes, API CJ-4 oils may have a different fresh oil chemical profile from previous oils because one of the key requirements of the API CJ-4 category is the setting of maximum limits on the phosphorus, sulfur and sulfated ash content of oils. These limits are needed to protect the new 2007 advanced emission control technologies. Users should seek guidance from their oil supplier and/or engine or vehicle manufacturer regarding any changes to used oil analysis programs for API CJ-4 oils.
     

    6. Do API CJ-4 oils protect older engines as well as API CI-4 or API CI-4 PLUS oils?
    Yes, API CJ-4 oils are designed for use in new engines as well as the existing on-highway fleets. API CJ-4 oils are qualified utilizing several new engine tests that are more severe than those used for API CI-4 or API CI-4 PLUS oils thus defining a new category of oils with much more robust performance than previous categories. API CJ-4 oils are formulated for improved wear protection, deposit and oil consumption control, soot-related viscosity control, prevention of viscosity loss from shearing, used oil low-temperature pumpability, and protection from thermal and oxidative breakdown when compared to previous API performance categories. As always, users should seek guidance from their engine or vehicle manufacturer regarding specific service recommendations.

    7. Do API CJ-4 oils protect older engines if they are operated on 500 ppm maximum sulfur fuel?
    Yes, API CJ-4 oils are designed to have performance benefits over API CI-4 and API CI-4 PLUS oils when using both 15 ppm and 500 ppm sulfur fuel, and qualification testing is conducted using both fuels. As a reminder, 2007 on-highway engines with advanced emissions systems must use ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel containing 15-ppm sulfur or less. In cases where older engines/vehicles are operated with 500 ppm sulfur fuel, API CJ-4 is designed to protect the engine better than API CI-4 and API CI-4 PLUS. As always, users should seek guidance from their engine or vehicle manufacturer regarding specific service recommendations.

    8. Can API CJ-4 oils be used in off-highway applications?
    API CJ-4 oils can be used in off-highway applications. However, the use of API CJ-4 oils with higher sulfur fuels, like those generally provided for off-highway use that may contain up to 5,000 ppm sulfur, may result in revised oil drain intervals and other maintenance recommendations. As non-road fuel sulfur levels are reduced, first to 500 ppm in June 2007 and then to 15 ppm in June 2010, manufacturer recommendations may be revised.

    In July 2004 AMSOIL introduced new PowerCore air filters for Ford 6.0L Diesel PowerStroke™ and H2 Hummer 6.0L Vortec™ engines. The rugged structure and fluted media construction of these PowerCore filters provide increased contaminant holding capacity, more efficiency and eliminate media movement.

    PowerCore Technology
    Donaldson PowerCore air filters are widely known in the heavy-duty market for being reliable, premium products. Their flawless repuation and proven performance make Donaldson filters a perfect match for AMSOIL.

    In filters featuring PowerCore technology, the media is formed into flutes. These flutes are layered to give tight, rugged structure to the filter. The fluted channels are alternately sealed allowing air to enter through an open flute and forcing it to exit out an adjacent flute. Dirty air travels in and is filtered in one pass through the media.

    Superior Performance
    The superior performance of the PowerCore air filtration products for Ford 6.0L PowerStroke Diesels and H2 Hummer 6.0L Vortecs has prompted AMSOIL to expand its offering of Donaldson filtration products to include the entire line of PowerCore air filters.     AMSOIL FFK60 Fuel Filter for Ford 6.0L Diesel PowerStroke™ Applications
    The AMSOIL FFK60 Fuel Filter incorporates both a primary and secondary filter for maximum fuel cleanliness. The primary 10 micron filter, located in the Horizontal Fuel Conditioning Module (HFCM), performs initial fuel cleansing before sending the clean pressurized fuel to secondary four micron filter, mounted to the oil filter housing.

    The secondary fuel filter includes a fuel pressure regulator and an orifice on top of the housing that bleeds air out of the housing and back to the fuel tank. Following its trip through the secondary filter, fuel is returned to the HFCM, where it is either directed to the tank or returned to the primary filter.

    AMSOIL EaO88 Oil Filter for Ford 6.0L Diesel PowerStroke™ Applications

    A premium, high efficiency cartridge oil filter utilizing nanofiber technology for Ford 6.0L diesel engines ranging from 2003 to 2006. The new EaO88 is the world’s first oil filter cartridge for diesel applications using advanced submicron full synthetic media. The EaO88 provides an efficiency of 98.7% at 15 microns, significantly higher than the OEM filter.

    The rigid construction of this filter is due to a polymeric center tube and end caps, along with its proprietary composition incorporating special grade nanofiber synthetic media, enabling the filter to last up to 1 year or 25,000 miles when used in conjunction with AMSOIL synthetic motor oil. Because of its improved oil flow, an additional benefit of this synthetic filter media is that oil is delivered to key engine components quicker, thus enhancing the lubrication process during cold weather starts.

    AMSOIL now carries a retrofit air induction system kit for Ford truck owners who operate their vehicles in dirty or dusty conditions.

    The PCIS73 should only be installed on stock, unmodified engines. Not recommended for engines with performance enhancing devices such as electronic chips, turbo-chargers, or exhaust systems

    The new air induction system brings better performance to Ford owners. Diesel engines need clean, unrestricted air for optimal performance. The new Donaldson 7.3L PowerStroke Diesel air induction system with PowerCore technology provides better air filtration through better engineering.

    The PowerCore Air Induction System (PCIS73) replaces the present air intake system and utilizes a Donaldson PowerCore filter to provide unmatched performance and filtering efficiency on 1999 through 2003 model year F-250 to F-550 Super Duty trucks and SUVs with 7.3L PowerStroke Diesel engines.

    Greater Filtering Efficiency
    The Donaldson air induction system is three times more efficient than the industry-leading cellulose media. The layered structure from PowerCore technology is totally non-metallic and allows for 99.95 percent efficiency. The highly efficient Donaldson PowerCore air filter is the only aftermarket induction system that is approved by Ford Motor Company.

    Easy Installation
    The new air induction system kit comes with the air filter box fitted with a PowerCore Filter
    , air restriction gauge, temperature sensor, air inlet duct, battery blanket, battery box plate, necessary fasteners and complete installation instructions. The kit installs in 35 to 40 minutes and there are no extra parts to buy.

    Greater Filter Capacity
    More capacity means more engine protection. The PowerCore air filter has over 16 times more media surface area than washable filters, and 3 times the media surface of conventional filters. The PowerCore air filter has five times more dust holding capacity than washable/reusable air filters and twice the capacity over premium quality traditional filters. Greater capacity also means changing filters less often, even in more severe service situations. When the restriction gauge on the PCIS73 reads in the red zone, change the filter as soon as possible.

    John Deere and Freightliner Applications
    AMSOIL now offers Donaldson PowerCore Filters 
    for John Deere and Freightliner applications. These OEM- recommended filters feature the same rugged, fluted design available in previously introduced PowerCore filtration products. The primary filter available for the John Deere 6020 Series fits both the four cyllinder and six cylinder models, however the four cylinder and six cylinder tractors cannot use the same secondary filter.
